Chemical Engineering Partners (CEP) was established in 1988 as an affiliate of Evergreen Oil, Inc. (EOI), a company involved in the re-refining of used lube oil to produce lube base oils. At that time, on-stream performance of EOI's refinery was marred with problems of severe fouling, carbon deposition and a very short catalyst life. CEP was engaged to help remedy these issues. First CEP licensed a proven technique and installed it at the EOI Plant. Upon installation, drastic improvements in on-stream performance were observed. This technique solved major problems of fouling and carbon deposition but did very little to enhance the life of the hydrotreating catalyst. This translated into frequent shutdowns for catalyst change leading to low on-stream performance. CEP directed their research to this area and came up with several improvements to the re-refining process that specifically addressed improved catalyst life. This proven, modified process called the CEP Process is currently in use at EOI and other CEP-designed facilities completed or under construction.
CEP has developed significant expertise with various hydrotreating applications. By late 1995, CEP decided to expand their experience base to also include other hydrotreating applications like diesel, gasoil and aviation fuel hydrosulfurization and white oil production. CEP has experience in working with world-renowned catalyst manufacturers to provide process designs for the production of white and specialty oils. CEP also has considerable experience in the treatment of hazardous and non-hazardous wastewater effluents from oil processing and other sources and has designed a plant for the treatment of wastewater at EOI's Newark Facility.
In June 2009, CEP announced their own brand of hydrotreating catalyst, CEP-HRX™. CEP has used the knowledge gained from years of experience designing used oil re-refineries and experience using various types of catalyst to provide the best hydrotreating catalyst for used oil re-refining. CEP currently markets their catalyst in conjunction with CEP designed hydrotreating plants and is also available to existing hydrotreating facilities.
Today, CEP is still going strong providing re-refining technology, basic engineering designs, process simulation and consulting services to clients world-wide. We remain committed to continuously improving the underlying Wiped Film Evaporation - Hydrotreating technology with three objectives in mind: to increase on-stream efficiency, reduce operating costs and to reduce capital investment costs.
